History and scope of fluid mechanics; integral relations for a control volume; differential relations for a fluid particle; dimensional analysis and flow similarity; viscous flow in ducts; measurement techniques; introduction to turbulence; boundary-layer flows; flow around slender and bluff bodies; potential flow; aerodynamic theory; compressible flow; open-channel flow
Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Assessment of individual (written) home exercises, lab-reports, and a final written examination, which consists of a theory part (without means of assistance) and an open-book problem-solving part. The course mark is determined from a total sum, which consists of the result from the passed written examination and (if any) bonus points from approved problem assignments. The graduation is determined from a special formula.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
Required prior knowledge: FMA430/FMAB30 Calculus in Several Variables and FMFF01 Vector Analysis OR FMA435/FMAB35 Calculus in Several Variables.
